I'm watching the evening news and hear the temperature for the upcoming week. Let's just say that it's expected to be VERY cold (16 deg Fahrenheit, -8 deg Celsius). I can deal with the cold, but I just had to think about tomorrow morning. They are doing a Polar Plunge tomorrow to benefit Special Olympics. There will be hundreds of people that will run into the ocean where the water temperature is 43 deg F (6 deg C) and the wind is supposed to be blowing 15-20 mph, making the wind chill factor about 35 deg F (2 deg C). You have to seriously want to do that plunge to deal with those temps! I know it's for a good cause. I help out by donating, not by running into the almost freezing ocean in the dead of winter. I have three friends who do it religiously every year. I may go down there to watch it. It depends on how cold it is really. The cold weather has been hell on my joints lately. I don't want to make it worse.

There is quite a disturbance in the force
Feb. 3rd, 2007 06:06 pmI am watching The Empire Strikes Back and my friend in Cali calls. I love him dearly, but I now remember why we used to call him mumble boy. When I was talking face-to-face I could decipher what he was saying by seeing his expressions or even reading his lips to an extend. Trying to figure out what he is saying over the phone? Virtually impossible. He was rambling on and on about his work, but I couldn't get the details. The gist of it is that the manager, whose last day was Friday, told him that it would be in his own best interest to look somewhere else for a job. When I yelled at mumble boy to stop mumbling, he told me that the company is going down the tubes and not just his plant, but corporate-wise as well. This as his wife is 8 months pregnant. Poor boy. Monday, he is going to update his resume and start inquiring about new jobs to make sure that he has something lined up just in case. It's weird for me to hear him being so responsible because he was such a nomadic, off-the-cuff kind of guy when he was my partner in crime. I hope for the best for him.
