Mar. 4th, 2007 10:39 pmI am watching the program on the Discovery Channel about the Lost Tomb of Jesus. It's really quite interesting. What I find most interesting is how people are so hesitant to think that there could be a tomb for Jesus of Nazareth. At the beginning of the show, they specifically state that if the bones found in the ossuary were indeed those of Jesus, it doesn't automatically discredit the Biblical Gospels and the story of the resurrection/ascension, since most scholars agree that the resurrection/ascension would be spiritual in nature anyway. One of the most interesting comments that I have heard was made by a Biblical scholar who stated that if it is the tomb of the Biblical Jesus, his faith will not change. Very accurate if you ask me. After all, faith is believing in what can't be seen or verified. I find it amusing how people are so adamant about this tomb. I can't wait to watch the panel of experts after the show. How freaked out will some of those people be? The questions that will be asked should prove intriguing...
Okay... The critical look turned out differently than I expected. The people who were totally defensive were the scientists and the archeologists and the film maker. The religious scholars were actually quite calm about things and offered good insight. I especially like the female (I wish I could remember her name) because her focus was that Christians must learn to be critical when watching any kind of religious program. That's all I ever want from them, too.
