Big mistake
Aug. 13th, 2008 10:34 pmI am apparently having some kind of an allergic reaction to something, and I have a horrible itchy, red rash on my face. I noticed this morning as I was getting ready for work that my face looked flushed. As the day wore on, it started itching and itching and itching. Then people started noticing the splotches on my face. I put some cortisone cream on it, which helped, but it eventually started itching again. I have taken an oral allergy medicine, and I thought that it would be a good idea to wash my face to try to alleviate whatever allergen was driving my skin crazy. So not a good idea! I don't know if my skin is raw from me scratching on it for the better part of a day or if the rash just made my skin unhappy about being washed. My cheeks feel like they are on fire. I've put a topical cream on it, which seems to be helping some. Cool compresses also help. I hope this medication fixes things by morning, or I will have to get in to see the doctor. I have a high tolerance for pain, so that is manageable. However, the constant itching is so annoying. I just want to be done with it.
FYI: Update on the parent situation from the other day - I spoke with the principal of summer school and found out the reason why the student's name had been left off of the list. The reason that she could not graduate on time was because she had not passed the minimum state test required. She passed it over the summer. We tested her earlier than normal just so we could be sure to have her scores back in time for the August graduation. Apparently, we were the only school that had enough sense to do that because the other seniors who were in the same situation but attend other schools, have not gotten their scores back as of yet. Therefore, the people planning the summer graduation assumed that everyone was in that same situation, and didn't add any of those students to the list. Never mind that I sent the list saying that she was okay. Never mind that one of our administrators also sent her name over specifically asking about her and whether or not she was attending the graduation program. I can understand how it happened, but I think that it's lousy to make a sweeping generalization to eliminate all seniors needing tests just because the other schools didn't have the forethought to test them early. I made the call to the mother and tried to explain the situation, and she almost had me in tears. I did talk my principal into reimbursing her for some of the cost of the cap and gown order. It can't replace the ceremony, but it was all I could think of to try to help the situation. I tried to be diplomatic about the blame, and diffuse the situation. My principal told me that I was a heck of a lot nicer than he would have been in that situation. At least I had his support in all of this mess. I need to change the cold compress again and try to get some sleep. Keep your fingers crossed that this goes away by morning!
