I spent most of the afternoon in the doctor's office for my yearly check up, so I am still getting updated on all of this.  It makes me sick to death for the students and families involved.  I think that the school will have a lot to explain, and I don't think that we will have the whole story for several days.  I work at a high school in Virginia, and we send several students to Virginia Tech every year.  Now, every time that my phone rings, I am scared to answer it, knowing that any of the students that were killed could be former students.  Is it awful to hope that none of the people shot were any of my former students?  I wish that no one had to receive the calls, but unfortunately, according to the local news 33 people are now dead, including the shooter.   If  you have a family member  at Virginia Tech and want to find out if they were involved, the news has released this number:  1-877-200-3360.

How does something like this happen?  Earlier this year, in August I believe, there was an escaped convict loose on the campus.  After that incident, the school reviewed their safety procedures and campus security.  What did they decide after that?  Whatever it was, it obviously was not sufficient.
