(no subject)

Just a quick update.  Today was the first day of school with the students back in the building.  This is notoriously bad as far as the guidance office goes with lots of students wanting schedule changes and all of the parents trying to register their students for school.  (I swear that they must see the school bus drive by and think, "Oh shit!  I've got to get my kids into school!")  However, today was the best first day that we've had as long as I have been at the school.  We had a plan in place to help deal with all contingencies, and that kept most of the students out of the office.  The department really acted together as a team, filling in for each other, helping out where needed, and covering for the counselor who was absent.  I felt so good about today and we plan to do the same kind format tomorrow morning.  I am happy because it is going so well that I don't feel horrible about leaving to go to David's funeral.  I still haven't heard anything from my father about it, so I need to call him tomorrow.  As I said before, he probably won't tell me the details until it's too late unless I ask him about it.  When all else fails, I am keeping track of the local newspaper for the obituary to get the information.
