I found out today that the funeral for David is Saturday morning, and the viewing is Friday evening.  Since it's the weekend, it would seem perfect for me to be able to go.  However, there are two mitigating factors.  First of all, to get there, I would have to take Friday off from work.   I am short a counselor who went to a conference and hasn't been able to get a flight back here that hasn't been delayed because of weather.  That would be manageable, except that my secretary will also be out on Friday because she is having knee surgery.  If I am out at the same time, that means that the department is down 3 people all together.  Not a good thing.

The second problem is that this area is most likely going to be hit by Hurricane Hanna this weekend.  We will definitely feel the effects, but the strength with which it hits is the question.  The prediction is that it will be category 1.  How that affects my trip?  I don't like driving in hurricane force winds.  I've done it before, but it seriously sucks.  Also, there is a good chance that the electricty will be knocked out by the wind.  That means that if I go to the funeral, I may come back several days later to a rancid house because the refrigerator wasn't working during that time.  There's also the chance of flood damage and broken out windows.  It may seem petty to be worried about such things instead of going to David's funeral, but if you have ever dealt with the fallout from a hurricane, you can understand.  It can take a significant amount of time to recover from that.  I guess that I will have to see what the path is supposed to be for the hurricane and make a decision after that.
