My just desserts
Sep. 4th, 2006 12:21 amYou know what the best thing ever is? Staying in your pajamas and sleeping most of the day! After the past two weeks that I've had, I deserved a day of unadulterated slothfulness. I went into the office yesterday for about 5 hours to resolve the last of the schedule conflicts. As far as what I do, we are ready for the first day of school. It was a huge relief to have that finished, so I could enjoy the rest of my weekend. Then, last night, I went to a friend's cookout where several people proceeded to be rude and stupid to me. My friend, Sara, just moved in with her boyfriend and they celebrated. Most of the people there were his friends and most of them were standoffish and looked like Greatful Dead reject flashbacks. I have no problem with how someone looks, but when their bodies smell like they have just been scraped out of a gutter somewhere? That's just gross. Bathe people! Anyway, Sara and her man have a nice place with a game/video room, with a screen that covers one wall and a projector for any video games or movies. I'm not the kind of person that has to have the best of the techno gadgets, but I was pretty damned impressed. Anyway, the game room is right beside the bedroom where one of the guests had just laid her baby down to sleep. (Don't even get me started on people bringing babies or children to a keg party where there is a good chance that people may also choose to participate in other herbal refreshments.) Because the game room is away from the main crowd and sort of secluded, a large group of people came into the room to "smoke". I asked them to be quiet because the baby was sleeping next door and this one asshole informed me that it was okay because the baby was already dead and proceeded to laugh and joke around at the top of his lungs. I can handle the poor taste in jokes, but then to be purposely loud after that? No call for it. I left the room. Later on, the same asshole tried to pick a fight with my brother's friend, Chris. Now, Chris has a temper and will fight. He exchanged words with the asshole and things began to escalate. They didn't fight, but only because Chris tried very hard to control himself for Sara's sake. The asshole apparently has a nasty habit of getting drunk and picking fights. His wife and 8 year old daughter were both there to witness it all. His wife told him to get in the car because she wasn't dealing with this again. When he didn't get in the car, she drove off without him. (You go girl!) She did come back, but only because her daughter was hysterically crying that her daddy was going to get hurt. When his wife, his friends, my brother, and myself all pointed out that he needed to be there for his terrified daughter, he still tried to get Chris to fight. I ran and got my car and Chris and Derek left with me. Chris was so upset that he cried and apologized over and over. Chris is not my favorite person and I don't think that he treats my brother as well as a true friend should. However, I do have to say that walking away from that situation is the most mature thing that he has ever done. I was proud of him in an odd way. After all of that drama and work yesterday, I felt that I deserved to be a slug today. I highly recommend it from time to time. In fact, I think that I am going to veg out some more, or possibly go to sleep.
